See ticketsIn the heart of the working-class district of Vallecas, the Estadio de Vallecas is one of the most unusual grounds in Spain: just three stands, and behind one goal, a plain wall facing the street and apartment blocks. Opened in 1976, it holds around 14,700 fans, all very close to the pitch.
The two side stands are split into several levels: Lateral Baja and Lateral Cubierta on one side, Grada Preferencia and Tribuna Central on the other, in Category 1 Premium, plus the two upper stands (Tribuna Alta) in Category 1. The Fondo, behind the goal, is home to the Bukaneros, Rayo's fiercest fans.
On Madrid derby nights against Real Madrid or Atlético, and when Barça come to town, Vallecas's few seats are snapped up.
Each stand offers a different experience. Here is what you need to know.
Preferencia
On the Calle Arroyo del Olivar side: the Grada Preferencia and Tribuna Central (Category 1 Premium) run along the pitch, while the Tribuna Alta Preferencia (Category 1) looks down on it all.
Lateral
On the Avenida de la Albufera side: the Lateral Baja and Lateral Cubierta (Category 1 Premium) below, the Tribuna Alta Lateral (Category 1) at the top.
Fondo
The only stand behind a goal, home of the Bukaneros. Category 2 seats, the cheapest in the stadium, to experience Vallecas right among the chants.
Metro line 1, Portazgo station, right outside the stadium (around 20 minutes from Puerta del Sol).
Several EMT bus lines serve Avenida de la Albufera, which runs alongside the stadium.
With fewer than 15,000 seats, getting in is quick, but the local bars fill up early: arrive ahead of time for the atmosphere.
Rayo are Madrid's third club, and every visit from Real or Atlético is an event in Vallecas. These derbies, like Barça's visit, are the most expensive and scarcest tickets of the season, in a stadium of fewer than 15,000 seats.
A white shirt with a red diagonal sash, committed fans and working-class roots: Rayo has a unique identity in Spanish football. Its run to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 2001 remains a treasured memory.
Óscar Trejo, the iconic captain, Roberto Trashorras, Raúl de Tomás and Colombia's Radamel Falcao have thrilled Vallecas. On the French side, defender Florian Lejeune became a pillar of the team.
Rayo Vallecano was born in 1924 in the Vallecas district, then a village on the outskirts of Madrid. Its name means lightning ("rayo"), and its red diagonal sash, inspired by River Plate, has become its emblem.
Long confined to the lower divisions, the club reached the top flight for the first time in 1977, a year after its stadium opened. It has yo-yoed ever since, with a high point in 2001: a UEFA Cup quarter-final.
Now established in LaLiga, Rayo remains loyal to its neighbourhood, its small stadium and its fans, and even qualified for European competition again in 2025.
Next match at Vallecas: Rayo Vallecano - Celta Vigo on Saturday, 31 October 2026 at 16:15. Tickets from €190 on our comparison.
See tickets →The Estadio de Vallecas is squeezed between the neighbourhood's streets and buildings: on the Calle Payaso Fofó side, there was no room for a stand, just a wall. That is part of its charm… and its scarcity: with fewer than 15,000 seats, tickets go fast.
The derbies against Real Madrid and Atlético and the game against Barça cost much more. Right now, tickets start from €25 on our site. The Fondo (Category 2) is the most affordable stand, and the liveliest.
Take metro line 1 to Portazgo station: the stadium is right by the exit. Allow around 20 minutes from Puerta del Sol.
The Grada Preferencia and Tribuna Central, on the Calle Arroyo del Olivar side, as well as the Lateral Baja opposite, are closest to the pitch (Category 1 Premium). The Tribunas Altas give a bird's-eye view for a little less.
Rayo tickets are usually electronic or mobile and sent a few days before the match. The exact delivery method is shown on each offer.
