See ticketsAtlético de Madrid play at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, opened in 2017 in the east of Madrid, in the San Blas district. The stadium replaced the legendary Vicente Calderón and holds around 70,000 fans, all under a large roof.
The stadium has two long side stands and two ends behind the goals. The Lateral Oeste, the old stand of the La Peineta stadium, rises over five levels, the Lateral Este faces it, and the Fondo Norte and Fondo Sur are behind the goals. The central lower blocks (Category 1 Platinum) offer the best view.
Tickets are sought after all season, especially for the Madrid derby against Real, games against FC Barcelona and Champions League nights.
Each stand offers a different experience. Here is what you need to know.
Lateral Oeste
The big main stand, the old La Peineta stand, over five levels with the boxes and VIP areas. The central lower blocks (103 to 107, Category 1 Platinum) offer the best view, the 400 and 500 levels are more affordable.
Lateral Este
The opposite side stand, over three tiers. Blocks 120 to 124 in the first tier are closest to the halfway line.
Fondo Sur
Behind the goal, the Fondo Sur is home to Atlético's most passionate fans. Category 2 and Category 4 seats, among the cheapest in the stadium.
Fondo Norte
Behind the other goal, the Fondo Norte offers affordable seats (Category 2 and 4) with a fine view of the whole stadium.
Metro line 7, Estadio Metropolitano station, right next to the stadium (around 30 minutes from Puerta del Sol).
Special match-day buses from the centre (Avenida de América, Canillejas), and paid car parks around the stadium.
Arrive early: the metro is very busy before and after the match. Check the gate shown on your ticket.
The Madrid derby against Real is the most awaited game of the season, with two Champions League finals lost to their neighbours. Games against FC Barcelona are the other big fixture. These are the most expensive and sought-after tickets.
Atlético have won 11 Spanish league titles, 10 Copas del Rey, 3 Europa Leagues and the 1974 Intercontinental Cup. They play LaLiga every season (19 home games), the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
Luis Aragonés, as a player and then as a coach, Fernando Torres, Gabi, Diego Godín and Koke left their mark on the club. On the French side, Antoine Griezmann, Atlético's all-time top scorer, Thomas Lemar and Lucas Hernandez wore the rojiblanco shirt.
Atlético de Madrid was founded in 1903 by Basque students as a branch of Athletic Bilbao. Its players are nicknamed "Colchoneros" (the mattress makers), because the red and white of their shirt recalled the mattress fabric of the time.
The club moved to the Vicente Calderón in 1966, on the banks of the Manzanares. There it won the 1996 double, then went down to the second division in 2000 before coming back two years later.
Since 2011, Argentine coach Diego Simeone has turned it into one of Europe's best clubs: league titles in 2014 and 2021, two Europa Leagues and two Champions League finals. In 2017, the club moved to the Metropolitano.
Atlético's next match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is Atlético de Madrid - Barcelona on Sunday, 8 November 2026 at 21:00. Tickets start from €175 on our comparison.
