See ticketsThe Estádio Municipal de Braga is one of the most original stadiums in Europe. Carved into a former quarry on Monte do Castro, it has only two stands: behind one goal rises the rock face, behind the other the view opens onto the city. Fans call it "A Pedreira", the quarry.
Opened in 2003 for Euro 2004, the stadium helped its architect, Eduardo Souto de Moura, win the Pritzker Prize. Its two stands, Nascente and Poente, face each other along the pitch, so every block has a side-on view of the match. The upper tier (A9 to A16 and C1 to C8) is Category 1 with our partners.
Visits from FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting are the most awaited games of the season in Braga, ahead of the European nights.
Each stand offers a different experience. Here is what you need to know.
Nascente
The stand at the top of the map. The lower tier (A1 to A8) is closest to the pitch; above the East Boxes, the upper tier (A9 to A16) is Category 1.
Poente
The stand opposite. Downstairs, blocks B1 to B6 frame the central blocks D1 and D2; above the West Boxes, the upper tier (C1 to C8) is Category 1.
The stadium is north-west of central Braga, on the slopes of Monte do Castro.
City buses on match days, or a taxi from the city centre (about ten minutes).
From Porto, Braga is about an hour away by train or car: ideal for a day trip.
Sporting Braga's red shirt with white sleeves is inspired by Arsenal's, hence the nickname "Arsenalistas". The club also proudly carries the identity of the Minho, Braga's region.
In 2011, Braga reached the Europa League final in Dublin, lost by one goal to FC Porto. The club has been a regular in European competition ever since.
Braga have won several Portuguese Cups (1966, 2016, 2021) and League Cups, and have established themselves as the fourth force in Portuguese football behind the big three.
Sporting Clube de Braga was founded in 1921. For decades, it played at the 1º de Maio stadium in town and won its first Portuguese Cup in 1966.
In 2003, the club moved into the Estádio Municipal, built in the Monte do Castro quarry for Euro 2004 and now an architectural icon.
Since then, Braga have established themselves as the first challenger to the big three, with a Europa League final in 2011 and many European seasons.
Next match at the Pedreira: Braga - Famalicão on Sunday, 1 November 2026 at 20:30. Tickets from €35 on our comparison.

Matches against FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting are much more expensive than the others. Right now, tickets start from €35 on our site. For other games, prices stay affordable.
The stadium sits on the slopes of Monte do Castro, north-west of central Braga. City buses serve it on match days; you can also take a taxi, or walk up the hill if you don't mind the climb.
Every seat runs along the pitch. For a central view, aim for blocks A11 to A14 or C3 to C6 in the upper tier. The stands are steep: even at the top, you stay close to the action.
Braga tickets are usually electronic or mobile and sent a few days before the match. The exact delivery method is shown on each offer.
