See ticketsSt James' Park has been Newcastle United's home since the club was formed in 1892, and football was already played there from 1880. Set on a hill in the heart of the city, a short walk from the station and the shopping streets, it towers over Newcastle and can be seen from almost anywhere in town.
The stadium is built around four stands: the Gallowgate End behind the goal, where the most passionate fans sing, the Milburn Stand, the main stand with the VIP areas, the Leazes Stand, a huge stand behind the other goal with away fans at the very top, and the lower East Stand opposite the Milburn. With over 52,000 seats, it is one of the biggest grounds in the Premier League.
St James' Park's lopsided shape comes from its history: for years the club could not expand on the east side. The result is two giant stands and two smaller ones, and a unique atmosphere. Since the Magpies returned among England's best clubs, tickets sell out for almost every match.
Each stand offers a different experience. Here is what you need to know.
Gallowgate End
Behind the south goal, the historic home of Newcastle's loudest fans. Ideal to feel the Magpies' atmosphere from the inside.
Milburn Stand
The main stand, named after club legend Jackie Milburn. It houses the dugouts and most hospitality areas, with excellent views of the pitch.
Leazes Stand
Behind the north goal, the stadium's tallest stand. Away fans sit right at the top, on level 7, with a steep but distant view.
East Stand
Single-tier side stand opposite the Milburn Stand. Lower than the others, it offers a close view of the pitch and often gentler prices.
Metro, St James station: right next to the stadium, the easiest option (expect crowds after the match).
Monument or Haymarket Metro stations: about a 10-minute walk, in the heart of the city centre.
Newcastle Central station: about a 15-minute walk, with direct trains from London, Edinburgh and York.
The game of the year is the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland, the neighbours about 20 kilometres away. The atmosphere is electric and tickets are among the most expensive of the season. Visits from Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal or Manchester City also draw huge demand.
Newcastle play the Premier League every season (19 matches at St James' Park), the FA Cup, won six times, and the Carabao Cup, won in 2025 against Liverpool: the club's first major domestic trophy since 1955. The Magpies are also regulars in Europe again, with unforgettable Champions League nights at home.
Jackie Milburn, after whom the main stand is named, Hughie Gallacher, Malcolm Macdonald, Kevin Keegan and Peter Beardsley all thrilled St James' Park. Local hero Alan Shearer remains the club's all-time top scorer. French fans will remember David Ginola, Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Newcastle United was born in 1892 from the merger of two local clubs, Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End. The new club settled at St James' Park and soon adopted the black-and-white stripes that earned it the nickname "Magpies".
The early 20th century was a golden age: three league titles between 1905 and 1909, and a fourth in 1927. In the 1950s, led by Jackie Milburn, Newcastle won three FA Cups in five years. In 1969 the club lifted the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, its first European trophy.
In the 1990s, Kevin Keegan's "Entertainers" thrilled England and came close to the title. After more turbulent seasons, the club's takeover in 2021 opened a new era: under Eddie Howe, Newcastle returned to the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup in 2025, ending a 70-year wait.
Newcastle's next home game: Newcastle United - Everton on Monday, 2 November 2026 at 20:00. On our comparison, seats start from €70.

It all depends on the opponent and the stand. The Sunderland derby and visits from big clubs cost much more than a regular game. Right now, prices start from €70 on our site (per ticket, excluding fees). The top of the Leazes Stand and the East Stand are often the cheapest options, the Milburn Stand and its VIP areas the most expensive.
Yes, but not through official ticketing, which goes first to season-ticket holders and members, with long waiting lists. You can turn to hospitality packages or the resale sites we compare, the safest way to avoid the scams common on social media. Our partners are selected for their reliability and guarantee their tickets: if something goes wrong, their customer service always offers a refund or a solution.
St James' Park is right in the centre of Newcastle. St James Metro station is next to the stadium, and Newcastle Central station is about a 15-minute walk away. From the city centre, everything is easily reachable on foot.
