See ticketsAthletic Club play at San Mamés, a modern stadium opened in 2013 on the banks of the Bilbao estuary, right next to the old San Mamés nicknamed "la Catedral". It holds around 53,000 fans, all under cover, in four stands very close to the pitch.
The Tribuna Principal and Tribuna Este run along the pitch: their central lower blocks (Category 1 Platinum) offer the best view. The Tribuna Norte and Tribuna Sur are behind the goals, with the most affordable seats.
Tickets are sought after all season, especially for the Basque derby against Real Sociedad and games against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Each stand offers a different experience. Here is what you need to know.
Tribuna Principal
The main stand, with the dugouts and the boxes. Blocks 101, 102, 127 and 128 (Category 1 Platinum) offer the best view, the top of the stand (300s) is more affordable.
Tribuna Este
The opposite side stand. Blocks 113 to 116 at the bottom and 216 to 219 in the middle (Category 1 Platinum) are closest to the halfway line.
Tribuna Norte
Behind the goal, the Tribuna Norte is home to many of the most passionate fans. Category 2 seats, among the cheapest in the stadium.
Tribuna Sur
Behind the other goal, the Tribuna Sur offers affordable seats (Category 2) very close to the pitch, like everywhere at San Mamés.
Bilbao metro line 1 or 2, San Mamés station, at the foot of the stadium.
Tram (San Mamés stop) or around 20 minutes on foot from the centre and the Guggenheim museum.
Arrive early: the bars around the stadium are packed before the match. Check the gate shown on your ticket.
The Basque derby against Real Sociedad is the most awaited game of the season. Games against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, the only other clubs never relegated alongside Athletic, are the other big fixtures. These are the most expensive and sought-after tickets.
Athletic have won 8 Spanish league titles and 24 Copas del Rey, the latest in 2024. They play LaLiga every season (19 home games) and the Copa del Rey.
Telmo Zarra, José Ángel Iribar, Andoni Zubizarreta, Julen Guerrero, Aritz Aduriz and Iker Muniain left their mark on the club. On the French side, Basques Bixente Lizarazu and Aymeric Laporte wore the red and white shirt.
Athletic Club was founded in 1898 in Bilbao. Its players are nicknamed "Los Leones", the lions, after Saint Mamés, thrown to the lions according to legend, who gave the stadium its name.
The club is famous for its unique philosophy: it only fields players born or trained in the Basque Country. Despite this rule, it has never been relegated, like only Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
In 2013, Athletic left the old San Mamés, "la Catedral", for the new stadium built right next to it. In 2024, it won its 24th Copa del Rey, celebrated with a huge barge parade on the Bilbao estuary.
Athletic's next match at San Mamés is Athletic Club - Real Sociedad on Sunday, 1 November 2026 at 21:00. Tickets start from €87 on our comparison.

The Basque derby against Real Sociedad and the games against Real Madrid and Barça are the most expensive. Right now, tickets start from €35 on our site. The seats behind the goals (Category 2) are the cheapest, the central lower blocks of the side stands (Category 1 Platinum) the most expensive.
The Category 1 Platinum blocks, in the centre of the side stands (for example 101, 102, 127, 128 on the Principal side and 113 to 116 on the Este side), offer the best view. The stadium is fully covered: every seat is sheltered from the rain.
Take the Bilbao metro (line 1 or 2) to San Mamés station, at the foot of the stadium. The tram also stops at San Mamés, and the stadium is about a 20-minute walk from the centre.
Athletic tickets are usually electronic or mobile and sent a few days before the match. The exact delivery method is shown on each offer.
